Crochet Ideas

I get crochet ideas from books, Pinterest, and YouTube. I have made several crochet projects in the past few months that I found on social media, such as crocheted cotton washcloths and facial scrubbies. I make a lot of granny square afghans, baby afghans, and lap afghans, and scarves from yarn. Now I sell them on my new Amazon Handmade Store, Handmade By Juanita.

When I was little, my paternal grandmother, Elvina Yorgensen, taught me to crochet chains. I made a lot of them. My maternal grandmother, taught me to make granny squares. For years, that was all I could do in the world of crochet. I have learned how to do more by watching videos online.

Crochet Ideas For Projects

I have been crocheting granny square afghans and ripple afghans for many years, most of which are made with acrylic yarn.

I learned about cotton yarn so I bought some when Michael's was having a 99 cent sale. I have been making washcloths with it.

One of my next crochet projects is to make kitchen scrubbies and dishcloths. At the Christmas show where I was a vendor today, a lady asked me if I had any. She said they are made with a textured yarn that cleans pots and pans well. Tulle is the ingredient in the yarn that makes it good for scrubbing. I looked this up online and found that there are several varieties of this type of yarn. I will visit some stores where I buy yarn and see if I can find some and give it a try.

Update: I bought some scrubby yarn. It is very hard to work with because of the "scrubby stuff" on the yarn. It makes it difficult to see where the next stitch goes. See the photo below.

Last fall, I heard of Caron Cakes Yarn which is made of 80% acrylic and 20% wool which makes it very soft and cozy. It is one continuous cake of yarn but the color changes after several yards. So far, I have made scarves out of it.

I watch a lot of how to videos on crochet ideas and recently saw one on crocheting small angels from crochet thread to make ornaments. I tried it and successfully made some angels to test it out. In the near future, I will make a bunch of them for next Christmas. I was going to make them for this Christmas but then I started crocheting the cotton washcloths and scrubbies.

I recently bought a book on Amigurumi, crocheting small animals and other creatures and then stuffing them. This is a Japanese craft. I tried a project, but I could not figure it out. I will have to try a beginner project and ease my way into it.

Cross stitch is my favorite hobbies. Here I am making a Bible bookmark.
This is a craft and/or gardening apron that I sewed. It has both shallow and deep pockets.
I sewed this throw together with cotton print and pink flannel. It is perfect for those chilly evenings when you want to snuggle up and read a good book.
This is a small pumpkin bag I made for a small child to use for trick or treating or to carry small toys or crayons and papers in.
I made some burp cloths with cotton print and terry cloth. They are absorbent and pretty.
